Yossi killed Atari :-(

Maybe not spectacular news but I find it so sad. Also: unbelievable. Why would an elephant kill another elephant all of a sudden while they're living together for so many years ?

Of course, nobody is Dr. Dolittle and can speak their language, so who knows what they have been saying to each other over all those years?

Poor Atari :-(
Poor Yossi as well, since human hands created unnatural conditions (in the wild male elephant herds don't live together with female herds and here they were made to do just that) there's a killer elephant living in Ramat-Gan's safari right now...

The first link shows Yossi, the pride of the safari for so many years because him being the largest elephant in the whole wide word, and the second link takes you to the story of the 'murder'.

Tse.

Comments:
Yes,very sad what happpened in Ramat Gan Safari ,but that's also what happens in nature.Elephants also kill humans, last week two British tourists (mother and 10yr old daughter) were trampled by an elephant at the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe

And here's the English link to the Ramat Gan article:

there is apparently a whole war going on now in india between elephants and people .. i saw the national geographic ... dozens of people and elephants are killed .. the elephants invade villages at night and the locals shoot them back

Here's a link about the elephant war in India ...

dunno about this article.. it presents clashes as directly provoked by humans .. while it's clear that it has something to do with human activities, destroying their habitat may be one of them, the documentary i saw was about elephants ransacking villages just for the sake of it, with no migration routes cut ...

and of course as he rightly notices elephants are revered in india while in africa they were observed eliminating whole populations of rhinos ..

but they did mention in this clip that elephants psychology maybe be more similar to humans than we think and that they do know about revenge killings and they have a good memory ... the true middle easterners

Their memories are phenominal. They can remember things for tens of years and when encountered with the object of their ill-fate after all of that time, take a 'go' for it.
Many stories exist testifying to that.

The fact that people are destroying their habitat is accepted, no? I mean: if they'd leave them just alone, wouldn't hunt them down for their ivory and cut down their homes (trees) - why would they want to rampage villages?

Common sense & nature go together:

it's artificial misleading that offers to provide excuses for 'us' - that cannot and will not -ever- take away the reasons behind this sudden behavior of elephants (and other animals living in the wild) -

Not to respect nature is not to respect creation.........

i think that india goes through a demographic explosion... they are not into mistreating elephants as the elephants are associated with ganesh and so are revered and respected animals... but they are running out of space and their fields are encroaching on the elephants' habitat

no .. i think most animals there are sacred to some degree .. there is a monkey god .. they have ganesh ...
